You set up your plan,

Our trusted law firm partner, Booper Legal, will hold your savings in a bank account for you and your pets.

If something happens to you, we'll give your caretaker all the information they need to quickly care for your pet and make sure they use your funds to care for your pet the way you want.

Things you may be wondering

  • A Cotl Plan helps you ensure all your pets (that you have now or may get in the future) will be safe and happy, even if something happens to you. You document arrangements with caretakers (family, friends, or rescues) and set aside funds to support the care of your pet. We provide oversight over the use of those funds so you know the money you’ve earmarked for your pet actually goes to your pet’s care.

We work with Booper Legal and TowneBank to provide dedicated, compliant oversight over your trust funds.

  • Without a Cotl Plan, emergency services may find your pet and take them to an animal shelter. After the pet's new caretaker eventually learns about the situation, they would need to track your pets down, demonstrate they are the rightful new owner, and find a way to cover care expenses.

With your Cotl Plan, you receive "Cotl Line" caretaker services. We provide you with wallet cards, stickers, and pet tags that list a 24/7 support line. Cotl Line helps us (1) notify caretakers if something has happened to you, (2) quickly connect caretakers to your pet so your pet's life is not disrupted more than necessary, and (3) get caretakers funds they need to keep your pet safe and happy as quickly as possible.

  • That's great! Cotl is a streamlined way to discuss and document who will take care of your pet and the care you expect that person to provide. You'll get added peace of mind knowing (1) you're continuing to support your pet's ongoing care, (2) caring for a new pet will not financially burden your family and friends, and (3) Cotl Line will help minimize any disruption to your pet's life.

  • Your Cotl Plan lasts your whole life and protects all of the current and future pets you add to your plan. You can add or remove pets over time and make any updates you want. You get the certainty every pet who joins your family will live a safe, full, happy life now and later.

  • No! Cotl Plans are for all pet owners, and one of our goals is to make pet planning more accessible.

You can add funds to your Cotl Plan all at once or in small amounts over time. Save whatever funds bring you peace of mind. You can also add a clause to your will or broader estate plan to transfer funds if something happens to you.

In the future, we'll offer small, affordable life and disability insurance policies you can use to fund your Cotl Plan.

  • You get to decide how the money you’ve saved for your pet is spent. Your pet’s caretaker will send us receipts. We check to make sure the expense matches the pet care categories you’ve designated in your Cotl Plan. Then, we transfer money you've save to your pet’s caregiver. You get the peace of mind of knowing your money will be used for the things that are most important for your pet’s care.

  • All pets are welcome! Your Cotl Plan doesn’t exclude any of your pets based on species, breed, health condition, or other factors. If a new pet joins your family, it’s easy to add them to your Cotl Plan.

  • Yes. Wills have to go through the probate process, so your pet’s new caretaker will likely have to pay for pet-related expenses out-of-pocket for 6 months or more. Additionally, a traditional will or trust is just a document--without streamlined savings, emergency notification support, and third-party accountability of your money.

With a Cotl Plan, your pet’s new caretaker can be reimbursed for (and only for) pet-related expenses quickly and easily. We also have sample language you or your lawyer can add to a broader will or trust to incorporate your Cotl Plan into that document.

It's never too early to plan for what if.
